The Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture (DSAC) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.
About DSAC
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), is one of the South African government departments, whose main objective is to ensure that a better life is built for all South Africans. The DSAC achieves this by following its mission to change the delivery of sports, arts and culture. DSAC plans to enable this change by ensuring that there is equitable access to this sector, and development, as well as a level of excellence in every aspect of participation. Through this, DSAC also believes that it can harness socio-economic contributions and thus make a better life for all who live in the country through the means of Sports, Arts, and Culture.
Fields of Study Covered
The bursary is available for Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in the following fields:
- Anthropology (Postgraduate specialization in Forensics preferred)
- Archaeology (Postgraduate specialization in Bioarchaeology preferred)
- Geography and Geomatics (Postgraduate specialization in Cartography and GIS preferred)
- Archives and Records Management
- Library and Information Sciences
- Conservation of the Built Environment
- Heritage and Museum Studies
- Palaeontology
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) or related courses
- History
- Digitisation of Heritage Resources
What the Bursary Covers
The bursary provides up to R110,000 per student, covering:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed books
- Electronic devices (max R10,000 with proof of purchase)
- Accommodation (max R50,000 where applicable)
- Meals (max R18,500 where applicable)
- Transport (max R10,000 where applicable)
Eligibility Requirements for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) Bursary 2025
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens.
- Be 40 years old or younger.
- Be in or have completed Matric (2024).
- Intend to study or currently study in a heritage-related field.
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a registered institution.
- Have a strong academic record.
- Not be full-time employees earning more than R130,000 annually.
- Not receive other bursary funding.

Applications are submitted online for the DSAC Bursary 2025
Include the following certified supporting documents:
- ID document.
- Latest Matric results or certificate.
- Recent academic record (if currently studying).
- Proof of university admission.

Applications close on 31 January 2025. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
