The BASF South Africa Trust is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its bursary programme for the 2025 academic year. Students interested in financial support for their education are encouraged to apply.
About the Bursary
German chemical company, BASF SE, was founded in 1865 and is currently the biggest chemical producer in the world. The BASF Group is located in 80 countries across the world, including throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia, Asia and Africa. The Group has been active in Africa for 90 years and has over 1000 employees on the African continent.
The companies key industries include agriculture, health care, construction, automotive, textiles and plastics sectors.
Field of Study
Bursaries are awarded to Black (African, Coloured and Indian) female students in:
- Chemistry
- Engineering
- Sciences
What the Bursary Covers
The bursary provides full coverage for:
- Tuition fees
- Textbooks
- Accommodation
- Monthly stipend
Eligibility Requirements for the BASF South Africa Trust Bursary 2025
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens.
- Be Black females (African, Coloured, or Indian per BBBEE codes).
- Be financially disadvantaged and meet NSFAS funding criteria.
- Be in their 2nd year or higher of study in 2025.
- Be enrolled at a recognized South African university or university of technology.
- Have a strong academic record.
- Not have a criminal record.
- Not be receiving any other bursary, scholarship, or grant (except NSFAS).
Required Documents
- Certified copy of ID.
- Certified copy of Matric certificate or results.
- Certified copy of full academic record (most recent results included).
- Certified proof of parent/guardian income:
- Latest payslips (if employed).
- Audited financial statements (if self-employed).
- Affidavit (if unemployed).
- Proof of grant/pension (if applicable).
- CV (maximum 3 pages).
- Essay (2 pages):
- Topic: “The current and future state of my field of study, how I will contribute when I graduate, and why I should receive financial support to study in this field.”
- Format: 12pt font, 1.5 line spacing, Microsoft Word or PDF.

The deadline for applications is 10th January 2025. Late applications will not be considered, so be sure to submit your application before the closing date.
