About the Bursary Provider
The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) was established under the National Railway Safety Regulator Act, Act 16 of 2002, as a government agency in South Africa. It regulates railway safety for operators across the country and neighboring states that enter South Africa.
RSR’s mission is to ensure the safety of passengers, communities, and stakeholders involved in railway operations. The organization is headquartered in Bruma, Johannesburg, with an additional office in Cape Town CBD.

Eligibility Requirements for the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) Bursary 2025
To qualify for the RSR bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be currently in Matric (2024) or have completed Matric.
- Be aged between 15 and 35 years.
- Be studying or intending to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the listed fields.
- Be enrolled or accepted to study at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution (including TVET Colleges, Universities of Technology, or Public and Private Universities).
- Have achieved at least 65% in Grade 11 final results or Matric mid-term results (if entering the 1st year in 2025).
- Have achieved at least 65% in the current year of study (if already enrolled in tertiary studies).
- Not be receiving financial sponsorship or a bursary from any other organization.
Required Documents
The following certified documents must accompany your application:
- ID document.
- Matric latest results (if currently in Matric) or Matric certificate (if completed Matric).
- Full academic record, including the most recent results (if currently studying).
- Proof of tertiary registration or admission.
- Quotation for the academic year’s tuition fees.
- A motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary.
