About ABSIP
The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP), in partnership with STANLIB, is inviting South African students to apply for funding for the 2025 academic year. The bursary aims to support historically disadvantaged students (as defined by the B-BBEE Act) pursuing careers in investment management. It seeks to identify and develop future leaders in the financial industry, empowering them with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in their chosen careers.
Fields of Study
The bursary is available for undergraduate students pursuing the following degrees:
- BSc/BCom/BBusSc in Business Finance
- BSc/BCom/BBusSc in Economics
- BSc/BCom/BBusSc in Financial Analysis
- BSc/BCom/BBusSc in Investment Management
- BSc/BCom/BBusSc in Mathematics
- BSc/BCom/BBusSc in Statistics

Eligibility Requirements for the ABSIP Bursary 2025
Applicants must meet these criteria to be considered:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be Black, as defined by the B-BBEE Act.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Be studying or planning to study full-time toward an investment management qualification.
- Hold a strong academic record (minimum average of 75% for core subjects).
- Have completed Matric.
- Not be a STANLIB employee or related to one.
- Not have permanent work experience (vacation work is acceptable).
- Intend to study or currently study at one of these universities:
- Nelson Mandela University
- North-West University
- Rhodes University
- Stellenbosch University
- University of Cape Town
- University of Fort Hare
- University of the Free State
- University of Johannesburg
- University of KwaZulu-Natal
- University of Limpopo
- University of Pretoria

Preference: Applicants with leadership qualities and involvement in extracurricular activities (e.g., sports, debating) are encouraged to apply.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit clear and certified copies of:
- ID document.
- ID documents of parents or legal guardians.
- Academic records (if already studying).
- Fee statement from the institution.
- A one-page motivational letter explaining your interest in investment management.
- Parents’ or guardians’ payslips and bank statements (certified, from the past three months).
- An affidavit for unemployed parents or guardians.
